By revolutionizing the optical and structural design of the Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM, this new lens achieves a compact size and a minimum focusing distance of 35cm. New material, Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) maintains its structure and has little contractility especially in varying temperatures, is incorporated into the lens barrel. It is convenient when you wish to keep your equipment to a minimum and yet still be prepared for all opportunities and situations, such as travels.

A wide range of photography is possible in one lens

Covering wide angle 18mm to telephoto 250mm, this versatile lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras, is suitable for all-purpose photography including landscape, sport, and macro photography. It is convenient when you wish to keep your equipment to a minimum and yet still be prepared for all opportunities and situations, such as travels.

Excellent for macro photography

Close-up capability is improved with the minimum focusing distance of 35cm throughout the entire zoom range, and maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9. In APS-C size equivalent, macro photography with approximately 1:2 magnification ratio is possible. In addition, with this lens, the size and flaming of subjects can be adjusted by rotating a zoom ring, making macro photography easier than using fixed focal macro lens. For further convenience, the maximum magnification ratio at each focusing distance appears on the side of the lens barrel.

Revolutionizing the design foundation results in compact size

Optimization of the power arrangement by such as incorporating double-sided aspherical lenses, and reexamination of design, the filter diameter size is reduced. This compact size lens has the approximately 13x high zoom ratio with the filter size of diameter 62mm, and dimensions of diameter 73.5mm x Length 88.6mm. It ensures portability and overall ease of use, making it perfect for travel and leisure photography.

New material TSC (Thermally Stable Composite)

Thermally Stable Composite

The new material "TSC (Thermally Stable Composite)", which has little contractility especially in temperature changes, as well as maintaining firmness, is incorporated into the lens barrel. Compared to Polycarbonate which is generally used, TSC has higher elasticity by approximately 25%. Since thermal shrinkage is low, it has high affinity to metal parts which contributes to high quality product manufacturing. It also contributes to the parts such as the zoom ring and scaling to be slimmer.

Sigma's own unique Optical Stabilizer (OS) function is incorporated. It offers superior stabilization, which makes it possible to compensate for camera shake even in macro range photography where a small blur can be easily identified. When photographing a moving subject such as motor sport, it automatically detects camera move, and offers effective correction for camera shake.

SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element offers excellent correction of color aberration. From an early stage, flare and ghosting are thoroughly measured to establish the design which is resistant to strong incident light such as backlight. Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. Supplied petal-type hood can be attached to block out extraneous light which has a harmful influence on rendering of the lens, and prevent internal reflections to occur.

Corresponding Digital SLR Camera

DC lenses have an image circle that covers APS-C size image sensors. Not for use on digital cameras having image sensors larger than APS-C size or on 35mm or APS film cameras, as vignetting will occur. The angle of view varies depending on which camera the lens is mounted on. To find the 35mm camera-equivalent focal length, multiply the DC lens focal length by the crop factor (digital multiplier) of 1.5, 1.6, or 1.7, depending on the brand of DSLR camera on which the lens will be used. To find which DC lens is equivalent to a full-frame lens, divide the focal length of the full frame lens by the same crop factor.
Sony and Pentax mounts are not incorporated with OS function.
AF will not function with Pentax ist* series and K100D DSLR cameras that do not support HSM.

The new Circular PL filters benefit from a super multi-layer lens coating developed to counteract the highly reflective characteristics of digital image sensors reducing both flare and ghosting. Black rimmed glass eliminate unnecessary internal reflections. Circular Polarizing (CP) filters which eliminate reflections from subject such as glass and water and deepen the intensity of blue skies. The range of CP filters, with the exception of 86mm, 95mm and 105mm, is encased within ultra-thin metal ring that does not cause vignetting with wide-angle lenses. Each of these Sigma EX DG filters is designed to accept the front cap of the lens.
